HVAC Contractor Certifications

Throughout our time over the past 25 years servicing our community, a lot has changed.  The technologies & efficiencies that go into our appliances has become more and more complicated.  This is why it’s increasingly important to know what you’re getting from your contractor when they work on your Air Conditioner, Furnace or other appliances. There are many certifications required by contractors to ensure your safety and make sure your home’s insurance will be covered by the work being done.

Some of these certifications are for working on gas lines, some for electricity but ALL of them are for your safety. We’re going to explain the most important ones and why you need your contractor to have these certifications.

Proposed Ontario Bill to Prevent Future Door to Door Furnace, Air Conditioner & Hot Water Tank Scammers

Ontario Door to door sales lawFor some time now, we here at Custom Comfort Climatecare have been shedding light on a serious topic.  One of which we have received many calls about over the past few years.  Door to door furnace, air conditioner and hot water tank sales have been an on-going issue.  At times the companies carrying out these types of sales use unconventional methods to get people to sign up for their equipment including; bullying/scare tactics, misrepresentation and false claims that homeowners current equipment is not to code, is improperly installed or malfunctioned and needing replacement.  The fine print are usually words and terminology that could be taken in more than one way misleading the person who decides to give in and sign up.

Door-to-door Sales Agents Can Leave You Out In The Cold

Door to door salesmanWhile some door-to-door sales are legitimate, it is becoming an increasingly popular practice used to cheat unsuspecting people into getting caught up in expensive long-term contracts. A CBC poll from 2013 found that over 66% of Canadians found door-to-door salespeople overly aggressive even when homeowners clearly stated they were not interested in what was being sold. There are many door-to-door sales agents promising great savings on furnaces. These savings may seem too good to be true – and they are. Don’t be fooled.  Just this month, a single mother in Saskatoon was coerced into signing a furnace contract that would have had her spending over $10,000 over the course of 10 years, a number much higher than she was initially told.

CSA Group Warns of Door-to-Door Inspection Scam

CSA Scam safetyIt seems that too often there are scammers who try to take advantage of community members, in the latest scam in our area, individuals are posing as CSA group employees are asking to inspect homeowner’s furnaces.  The CSA group never goes to private homes to inspect anything.  If you are approached by these individuals, be sure to refuse them entry and contact local police immediately.
